Waterville Elementary Seeks New Principal
by Rob Yagid
Waterville Elementary School Principal Joyce Irvine will be leaving the
Waterville School system on the 30th of June to fill an opening at the
Wheeler School in Burlington. Lamoille North Superintendent Bob McNamara
confirmed Irvine's upcoming departure on Tuesday, June 1. Irvine held
the position for the past four years.
Members of the school boards in both Waterville and Belvidere have
already been working to find her replacement. According to Gary
Chicoine, the supervisory union's human resources director, the
Belvidere School Board will have a voice in the hiring decision now that
their students will attend Waterville in the fall.
"The interview team that is being put together will be well represented
by Belvidere," said Chicoine. He affirmed Belvidere's school board has
played a pivotal role in the screening of candidates.
"This is an urgent matter we are eager to move forward with," says
Chicoine. According to Chicoine more than 10 candidates responded to the
initial posting of the position. Community members, as well as both
school boards and staff at Waterville Elementary, have narrowed the
field of applicants to five.
Chicoine would not say when a final decision would be made
