Waterbury Bus Starts
by Amy Kolb Noyes
A new Route 100 commuter bus service will be up and running Monday,
October 25. The Lamoille Valley Bus will take over the local routes in
and around Morrisville, formerly known as the Hub & Spoke service, as
well as operate a commuter line to Waterbury with links to Montpelier
and Burlington. The Lamoille Valley Bus is operated by Green Mountain
Transit Agency, which also took over the Stowe Trolley service this
year. The Stowe Trolley routes will coordinate with the new service.
The Lamoille Valley Bus will operate four distinct routes. The Mountain
Road (Trolley) Shuttle will run daily in Stowe. The Route 100 Commuter,
the Shopping Shuttle (between Stowe and Morristown's shopping districts)
and the Morrisville Loop (formerly the hub service) will each run Monday
through Friday.
The new commuter route will originate at Morrisville Plaza then travel
into the Village of Morrisville, stopping at the municipal parking lot
and the gazebo on Main Street near the Union Bank. The final stop in
Morristown will be at the Morrisville-Stowe Airport. From there, the
Route 100 Commuter will continue on to the Stowe Town Hall. There will
be a stop at the West Branch Apartments on some, but not all, of the
seven daily round-trip bus runs. The next stop is at the Moscow Road
intersection with Route 100. In Waterbury the bus will stop at the Green
Mountain Seminary Apartments, the Waterbury Park & Ride and the
Waterbury State Office Complex.
From the Waterbury Park & Ride, passengers will be able to connect with
the Montpelier LINK Express route to Burlington in the morning and to
Montpelier in the afternoon. GMTA Transit Planner Chris Cole said
passengers will also be able to connect to Montpelier via the Waterbury
Commuter Route at the state office complex.
Cole said GMTA is excited to be offering this new service, which was
made possible through a grant from the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
He added, "It looks like it can be a successful endeavour."
Fares for the routes within Morristown and Stowe are one dollar for
adults and 50 cents for seniors, youth, disabled patrons and Medicare
holders. Fares for the commuter service between towns are $2 and $1,
respectively. For more information call 253-9200 or log onto
