Teacher Steward Honored by Amy Kolb Noyes
Morristown Elementary School first grade teacher Janet Steward was
honored this week by the United States Department of Education. Mike
Sentance, of the US DOE, came to Mrs. Steward's classroom Tuesday,
October 12, to present her with an American Star of Teaching award.
Among the invited guests was Vermont Education Commissioner Richard
Cate. The award, new this year, is being presented to one teacher in
each state. Teachers were nominated by their peers. The final selections
were made by the US DOE. Mrs. Steward, a former Vermont Teacher of the
Year, was presented with a plaque signed by United States Secretary of
Education Rod Paige. The plaque states the award was given "for
contributions to the classroom, achievements and successful
implementation of No Child Left Behind."
