Morrisville Intersection Study

by Amy Kolb Noyes

Resource Systems Group, the consultants who have been developing access
management plans for the Route 100 and Route 15 corridors, will also be
developing options for a convoluted Morrisville intersection. RSG will
spend the next few months studying the area of Morrisville where Main
Street, Park Street and Elmore Street come together, as well as four
smaller roads: Copley Avenue Richmond Street and Summer Street.
Among the options being considered for the intersection is a roundabout,
according to Lamoille County Planning Commission sr. transportation
planner David Pelletier. LCPC and the Town of Morristown are working
cooperatively on the intersection study.
The study is expected to take three months. RSG plans to form a steering
committee to advise on the project, conduct a traffic assessment and
identify alternative intersection solutions. Two public hearings will
also be held as part of the process. One hearing will be held as part of
the purpose and needs assessment. The second hearing will be to present
a draft plan. A final report on the study will be compiled in January 2005.
In addition to motor vehicle traffic, the area in question sees heavy
pedestrian traffic. School busses line up along Copley Avenue twice a
day by the Graded School Building. The area also contains an historic
Civil War monument on the green and a widely-used community playground
