Church Honors Marion Lendway
by Ben Hogwood
Marion Lendway, of Johnson, will be honored by Catholic Bishop Kenneth
A. Angell for showing exceptional devotion and contributing to her faith
on Sunday, October 17. Lendway will be honored, along with 24 women
around the state, in the diocese's fourth Recognition of Women in
Ministry awards.
Lendway, an octogenarian who attends St. John the Apostle Church in
Johnson, was nominated by her co-parishioners and pastors. Those
nominating her stated in a press release that "her drive inspires us
all... Marion currently serves as Eucharist Minister, Sacristan, C.C.D.
teacher, parish council member, greeter, and a major fundraiser."
Lendway was also commended for 10 years of teaching Sunday School and
her setting up before Mass on early mornings, late evenings, cold winter
days or whenever it was necessary.
Reverend Wendell Searles, advisor to the Diocesan Commission on Women,
stated, "these women we are about to honor are the salt of the
earth...and the light of the world."
The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 17, at 3 p.m. at
the St. Augustine Parish in Montpelier. All are welcome.
