Board Approves $14 Million Project
by J.B. McKinley
The Regional Advisory Board for the Green Mountain Technology and Career
Center has voted and unanimously approved and endorsed the $14 million
project for both the Lamoille Union and Hazen Union campus expansion.
The vote was cast Wednesday morning, September 8.
Several steps will follow as the project moves forward. First, on
September 15, GMTCC Director Joe Teegarden and a GMTCC team will meet
with state officials, including Kathy Hilgendorf, state consultant for
school construction programs, to discover how much of the funding for
the project the state will provide. She will review the project's
education and program specifications and cost estimates. Either that day
or the next, it's expected she will announce how much of the project (up
to 50%) the state will finance.
Next, the Lamoille Union District 18 Board will be asked to vote
September 21 to send the project to the public for a bond vote at the
Tuesday, November 2, general election. Based on the exact percentage of
the project that the state promises to fund, the District 18 Board will
also set the dollar amount for the bond vote.
