Wolcott Schedules School Bond Vote
by Amy Kolb Noyes
Wolcott school officials met with the Vermont Department of Education
this week in anticipation of an October 19 bond vote for an addition to
the Wolcott Elementary School. The school board has been working since
December with the architectural firm, Black River Design, according to
school director D.J. Masi. The result of that work is a plan for six
additional classrooms and a new school/community library out the front
of the school building.
Masi said plans also call for upgrades to the lighting, heating and
mechanical systems, as well as a new roof for better energy efficiency.
The school board hopes to learn this week if the proposed project is
eligible for state construction aid. Once state aid figures are
determined, the board will be able to set a bond figure and estimate the
effect the project will have on local property taxes.
