One Critical in Eden Accident
by Ben Hogwood

An accident in Eden left one person in critical condition at 10:30 a.m.
on Friday, August 20.
According to family friend Michelle Laird, Doris Draper, driving a Dodge
Dakota pickup with her daughter Barbara O'Hear as a passenger, pulled
off Blakeville Road turning south on to Route 100. She advanced into the
road without looking up the hill to the right, said Laird. A dump truck,
driven by Gerry Tatro of Jeffersonville, collided with the pickup. "The
dump truck did everything they could to avoid her," said Laird.
Sergeant Mark Thomas of the Vermont State Police said the accident was
close to a head on collision, with the dump truck hitting the right
front corner of the pickup. O'Hear was taken to Copley Hospital before
being transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care.
O'Hear suffered a "broken C spine" and elbow, an injured clavicle bone
and had a large bruise on her neck which is causing her difficulty to
breathe. She underwent an eighthour surgery at the hospital.
Draper and Tatro were not physically injured in the accident.
Fletcher Allen listed O'Hear in critical condition as of Tuesday, August 24
