Stabbing in Hyde Park
by Ben Hogwood
HYDE PARK - Police are looking for two men in relation to a multiple
stabbing in Hyde Park on Sunday, June 27.
According to police, one of the two suspects stabbed Benjamin Miller,
19, several times after he discovered them in his vehicle. Miller is
currently in Copley Hospital recovering from the wounds. Lamoille County
Sheriff Roger Marcoux, Jr. said Miller is expected to survive his wounds.
After taking a walk, Miller returned to his vehicle at approximately 2
a.m. and saw somebody in his vehicle and another male in a black Acura
Integra. After stabbing Miller, the man got into the passenger side of
the Integra. The incident took place on Cricket Hill Road.
After the Integra drove away in an unknown direction, Miller's wallet,
which had been taken, was found on Route 15 between Hyde Park and
Johnson. Miller made it to a house in the neighborhood of the stabbing,
where residents called the police.
Police currently have no suspects, but Miller described the man who
stabbed him as being approximately five feet eight inches tall, with
short dark hair and a stocky build. Police are currently working on a
composite sketch of the suspect. In addition, the Sheriff's Department
is doing a computer search of all the vehicles in the area that match
the Integra's description.
The Vermont Forensics Lab has gone through the car looking for evidence.
Sheriff Marcoux said the lab will look for fingerprints in both the car
and on the wallet.
Marcoux said that, while the case would have to be reviewed with State's
Attorney Joel Page, the suspects would likely be charged with attempted
murder.
Sheriff Marcoux would like to remind people that thefts from vehicles
are not uncommon in the county. He urges people to lock both their house
and their car doors and not to leave anything out in plain sight.
