Alleged Burglars Arrested
by Ben Hogwood
Morristown Police arrested two teenagers in connection with a number of
burglaries and break-ins, on Thursday, May 27.
Patrick Asplund and Nicholas Buckalew, both 17, were arraigned in the
Lamoille County Court House on Friday, May 28.
According to the police affidavit, Asplund and Buckalew entered
approximately nine vehicles during the evenings of Monday, May 24, and
Tuesday, May 25. They allegedly took an assortment of items, including a
camera, a pair of binoculars, and a number of compact discs. They also
allegedly set off a fire extinguisher in an Ultramar truck.
In addition, Asplund told Officer Michael Reeve, of MPD, that he broke
into three businesses in Morrisville on May 2, with another juvenile.
According to the affidavit, Asplund entered Melben's Restaurant, The
Nail Lady and Road's End Organics, taking alcohol, some money from a
cash register and a laptop computer.
Buckalew told police he broke into Bonz Restaurant and took some alcohol
several months ago. In addition, he said he stole a truck on May 27 and
drove to where Asplund was staying. He left shortly, returning the vehicle.
Asplund and Buckalew became suspects in the break-ins after a friend of
Asplund's, at whose home Asplund was staying, came into the MPD with an
assortment of items she believed were stolen. Police recognized these
items from the car break-ins.
Morristown Police Chief Richard Keith said another arrest is pending
relating to the business burglaries.
