Shot Fired in Domestic Dispute
by Ben Hogwood

Morristown Police arrested a Morrisville man after he allegedly
assaulted a former girl- friend and fired a shotgun at her father on
Thursday, April 22.
Daniel Alexander, 42, of Morrisville, was arraigned on Friday, April 23,
and charged with attempted aggravated assault with a firearm, simple
assault, and possession of stolen property.
According to the affidavit, Alexander became enraged while staying with
his former girlfriend in Brattleboro. Alexander allegedly stole items
from the house and wrote offensive messages on the mirror and the wall
of the house.
Later, the victim went to Alexander's home, on Cole Hill Road at
approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, to get her belongings
back. Also, according to official documents, when she arrived, Alexander
was unloading the items from his truck and taking them into his house.
When he saw the victim, he began yelling at her and threw rocks and beer
bottles at her vehicle. She drove off, noticing chips in her windshield
from where the rocks had hit, but returned after calming down, hoping
she could reason with Alexander and recover her belongings.
Alexander again told her to leave, but she insisted on getting her
property first. At this point, Alexander grabbed a mirror belonging to
the victim and smashed it. He then smashed a fish tank and threw eggs at
both her and her vehicle. She ran to the rear of the house but returned
when she no longer heard the eggs hitting her car. At this point,
Alexander grabbed a five gallon pail containing used motor oil and threw
it at the victim. He then threw a lit cigarette at her.
Alexander left, returning later with a can of beer and a bucket of
toilet water. He emptied the bucket on her, then grabbed an object and
said he would "bash her teeth in."
The victim left and went to her parents' home. Her father went to
Alexander's house to speak with him and get his daughter's belongings
back, but when he arrived, Alexander was standing in the doorway with a
shotgun. The father told police that Alexander fired a shot - six or
seven feet in front of him - at which point the father got back in his
vehicle and went to the police department.
Alexander told police the father was going to beat him, so he fired a
round into the ground to scare him off.
Police conducted a search of the house and recovered several items
belonging to the victim. They also confiscated Alexander's firearms.
Alexander was held and taken to the St. Johnsbury Community Correctional
Center for lack of a $15,000 bail.
