The Town of Hyde Park is asking their voters to appropriate $89,000 for the purchase of the “Old Hotel,” also known as the “Valley House” for use as a museum by the Hyde Park Historical Society.
Construction started on the Valley House in about 1822 and it was operated as a hotel into the early 20th century.
Maggie Stewart, whose in-laws later ran a garage out of the site, has been compiling the history of the building. She’s trying to verify the dates she has heard about the building, in hopes to create a timeline of the history of the spot.
The hotel now rests on about a ¼ acre lot. Stewart said originally the hotel and the Grange Hall, which was known as the Valley Hall back then, were part of the same lot.
