A former front desk clerk at Stowe’s Ye Old England Inn is facing eight counts of embezzlement after fraudulent refunds were allegedly made to credit cards in his name.
Stowe Police allege Jonathan Dissanayake (AKA Larose) created reservations under a false name and then canceled the transaction crediting his card for the false reservation. This is alleged to have happened nine times, on eight days, between September 8 and October 6.  Dissanayake is alleged to have taken $8,566.54 with the transactions.
According to Stowe Police officer Fred Whitcomb’s affidavit, the crime was discovered when Union Bank employees noticed refunds made without an offsetting sale.
Court documents show Dissanayake has previous arrests for petit larceny (for which he served 40 days) and passing bad checks (for which he received a four to 12 month suspended sentence in 2011).
