Morrisville resident Holly Reynolds will soon be competing in another major amateur golf tournament. Reynolds will be on the 30-member Vermont team for the annual Tri-State Tournament, an event held between teams from Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire every year. This year the tournament will be held on June 25 and 26 at the St. Johnsbury Country Club.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Reynolds stated, “It’s probably my favorite tournament of the season because of how they play the matches.”
Reynolds was referring to how the Tri-State Tournament is set up. The first day of the two-day competition consists of an alternate shot format with a two-person team from Vermont playing a match against two other similar teams from the other states. A total of six points per match is at stake for each two-person team on day one. During day two, the participants play in a traditional individual match play format with each individual player playing for a maximum of six points. Whatever state team has the most points at the end of day two is the winner of the tournament.
Vermont has won the Tri-State Tournament for the last four years, and Reynolds actually was on the 2012 team that won the tournament held at Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. She is hoping that experience will aid her going into this year’s tournament. Reynolds is also hoping her recent experience at the St. Johnsbury Country Club will help her put forth a strong showing. Both the 2012 Vermont Amateur Championship and the 2013 Vermont Mid-Amateur Championship were held at St. Johnsbury, and Holly competed in both.
“I’m feeling pretty good going into the tournament,” Reynolds concluded, “I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m 100 percent but I’m really looking forward to it.”
