Morrisville resident Holly Reynolds had another strong showing at the Vermont State Women’s Golf Association 2013 Amateur Championship. Reynolds finished third at the event, shooting a three-day total of 193 to finish just four shots off the lead. The 2013 tournament was held at the Manchester Country Club on August 14 and 15 after rain delayed the start of the tournament – which had been scheduled for Tuesday, August 13.
“The tournament went really well,” stated Reynolds, “I just had a couple of bad swings in the final round.”
Reynolds, who was attempting to defend her 2012 VSWGA Amateur Championship and extend her record of seven titles, shot a 193 over the shortened two-day event to finish just behind champion Madison Corley and second place finisher Kristin Mahoney. Corley shot a final score of 189 while Mahoney finished with a total of 190.
“Madison Corley and Kristi Mahoney both played very well,” Reynolds commented.
Holly opened play by shooting a 76 in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday morning. She then fired in a 42 in the abridged second round of the tournament on Wednesday afternoon for a score of 118 heading into play on Thursday. However, Holly was unable to run down Corley, who led the tourney after play on Wednesday.
Along with her 2012 Amateur Championship, Reynolds also won the VSWGA Amateur title in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and 2010. Her 2012 title broke the three-way tie she had been in for winning the most women’s amateur championships in Vermont history.
Reynolds will have another chance to bring home a title this year when she plays in the VSWGA Mid-Amateur Championship in the middle of September at St. Johnsbury Country Club. Reynolds has won the Mid-Amateur Championship in 2010 and she won her 2012 Amateur Championship at the St. Johnsbury Country Club.
