Lea Kilvadyova, community and economic development coordinator for Johnson, said the new grocery store is very close to becoming a reality... and one of the last things it needs is a name.

Mike Comeau, who owns the Richmond Market and Village Market in Waterbury is finalizing his plans and he is now looking for a name for the new venture.

Kilvadyova said he is looking for a name that identifies with Johnson as a community and would be meaningful to the people of Johnson. He is also looking for a logo for the sign and letterhead, so suggestions including artwork are requested as well.

Suggestions can be left with Kilvadova at the Johnson Municipal Office Building or emailed to her,

Comeau’s store would replace the Grand Union that left after being flooded in the spring of 2011.  Since then Johnson has been without a grocery store.  Efforts have been ongoing to find something that could serve the community’s needs for groceries, as well as provide a place for more fresh and local foods. Last fall, Johnson helped Comeau secure some loans for store fixtures.

Kilvadyova said Comeau is eyeing a late spring to early summer opening.
