A fire at the Stephen Kendey 1256 Stagecoach Road home, the second house northbound from the four corners at Morristown Corners, shut down traffic in the area Saturday evening, August 17.  Firefighters from Morrisville and surrounding towns battled the blaze, which was reported at about 6:40 p.m.

According to a press release from the Vermont State Police Fire Investigation Unit, the fire began when a small charcoal grill on the back porch ignited the wood siding on the house.  It was reported by a neighbor who called 911 and then alerted the homeowner who was in the house.

The fire extended from the back porch into the house and up to the attic. There was heavy smoke and water damage as well.

Hyde Park, Stowe, Elmore, Wolcott, and Johnson fire departments were called to the scene for assistance. North Hyde Park-Eden was on stand-by and Waterbury was called to assist Stowe.

There were no injuries and damages were estimated in excess of $25,000.  The fire was ruled accidental.
