A Cambridge resident was killed in a two-car accident on Route 15 in Johnson on Monday, June 16, at approximately 3:35 p.m. 30-year old Christine Haley was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel following a collision between her passenger vehicle and a commercial dump truck. The accident occurred in the area near the Jolley convenience store.
Authorities believe that the accident occurred when Haley’s vehicle crossed the centerline of Route 15 into oncoming traffic while heading in a westerly direction. Elmore resident David Whitcomb, age 50, was traveling east in his dump truck and attempted to avoid the collision. Haley’s vehicle then struck the front driver’s side of the truck before coming to rest back in the west-bound lane.
According to the press release issued by the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, Whitcomb and a passenger in the dump truck were uninjured. Route 15 was closed for approximately six and a half hours due to the accident.
The Lamoille County Sherriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into the crash with assistance from the Vermont State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the Department of Motor Vehicle Inspectors. No further information on the cause of the accident had been released at press time. According to the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department more information may come to light following the completion of the accident reconstruction.
