Morristown will host a public hearing at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 to discuss recent cases that have resulted in the death of children under the care of the Department of Children and Families. The meeting with be held at the Town Offices on Portland Street.
A panel, which is co-chaired by Bennington Senator Richard Sears, is looking into the complaints against DCF – which ranked last in Nation in a 2012 study for how well it responds to allegation of child mistreatment.
Morristown resident and DCF Commissioner David Yacovone has been reported as saying he would not attend any of the hearings, fearing his presence would discourage people from speaking out. Instead local field directors and the department's director of child safety are expected to attend.
