MORRISTOWN – The Morristown Police Department arrested Jason Bowers, 33, of Wolcott, on Thursday, July 22, and charged him with several counts pertaining to an alleged burglary at The Old Fishin' Hole at 81 Bridge Street.

The Morristown Police Department responded to the Morrisville business for a retail theft complaint.  Surveillance footage allegedly shows Bowers stealing items from the store, and attempting to steal other items.  Bowers is also alleged to have attempted to sell old U.S. currency to the shop owner, who was later able to identify Bowers from a photograph.

Later, the Morristown Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Bowers’ vehicle, which was seized and a search was consented to and conducted at the Morristown Police Department.  Evidence was found in the vehicle from a burglary that had been reported the previous day in Morrisville.  It is believed that Bowers used cash stolen in the burglary to purchase items found in the vehicle.

Bowers was charged with Burglary, Retail Theft, attempted Retail Theft and Violation of Conditions of Release and he was held on $10,000 bail.

Bowers was sentenced to 24 months in jail on federal gun charges and was scheduled to begin serving the sentence on August 17.  The charges stem from weapons he was found to be in possession of during the investigation of a series of burglaries in Caledonia and Lamoille Counties.

A vehicle matching the description of Bowers has been seen driving on back roads during the day over the last couple of weeks.  Bowers also had in his possession, old currency.  Anyone with information or missing old US currency or is has been the victim of a recent home invasion is asked to call the Morristown Police Department at 888-4211.
