Jodie Whitney's Body Found SPECIAL UPDATE IN WHITNEY CASE
by Ben Hogwood
HYDE PARK - Lamoille County Sheriff Roger Marcoux, Jr. told reporters,
during a news conference, that police discovered the body of a female at
approximately 2:03 p.m., on Wednesday, June 2.
Marcoux said the identity would not be released until after an autopsy,
but the body is widely believed to be that of Jodie Whitney, 35, who
went missing on Thursday, May 27. [The positive identification has
subsequently been made] Marcoux also stated that Edgar Whitney, Jodie's
wife, is the primary suspect in the case. Police acquired a confession
from Whitney later Wednesday evening.
Marcoux said that at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police
responded to a call at the Whitney house after a family member reported
Edgar Whitney had taken a large quantity of pills. When police arrived,
Whitney was in a "semicomatose state," said Marcoux, and could not
communicate. He was taken to Copley Hospital, in Morrisville, and later
transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care, in Burlington. The family
member who contacted the police gave information to law enforcement
which led to the discovery of the body, said Marcoux. "A family member
did provide us with information that we've been trying to corroborate,"
he said.
A date for Whitney's arraignment had not been set as of Thursday, June
3.[The date was set Friday for 9a.m. Monday, June 7 at the Lamoille
County Court House.]
