Dust blows as Johnson firemen and town officials break ground on Monday, April 4, for the new fire station in Johnson adjacent to the Johnson Municipal offices. Shortly after shovels bit the earth, Johnson Fire Chief Gordy Smith received a check of $566,643.40 from VLCT Property and Casualty Intermunicipal Fund. North Side Merchants Organize

MORRISTOWN - Monday, April 11, marked the second organizational meeting of the North Side Merchants (NSM), which was held at the Plaza Hotel at 4:30 p.m.According to minutes from the April 4 meeting, the mission of the newly formed organization is to "promote and build... businesses through community activities." However, only certain businesses are eligible, since eligibility is based on place of business: starting at Wilkins Street and heading north to Route 15.

How Was the Syrup Season?

There have been mixed reviews about this year's sugaring season. Many sugarmakers have reported a less than average crop, but a high sugar content in sap made a lot of fancy grade, good tasting syrup.For the majority of producers, February was the best time to gather sap, because the temperatures allowed the sap to run. However, by mid-March, the flow became sluggish and began producing darker syrup. At this time, many sugarmakers decided to call it quits for fear of burning pans and because of the lower grade product.

Mrs. Brown Goes to Warsaw

MORRISVILLE - Although her husband Woody was able to do some traveling in his youth, Rebecca Brown was not one of those people who took time out to backpack around Europe in her younger days. Instead, she was busy working on her education, her career, and raising her family."I've wanted to travel all my life," Rebecca confided.
