Morrisville's Wheeler Cemetery, on Washington Highway near Lower Elmore Mountain Road, was the scene of a gruesome grave robbing, discovered last week. The body interred three years prior was decapitated and the head carried away. Police quickly focused their investigation on Nick Buckalew, a teen who lived in close proximity to the graveyard. Buckalew is being held for lack of $100,000 bail awaiting trial. Police say the investigation of this crime is ongoing. Noyes photos
 

Hit & Run Reward

The Stowe Police Department is offering a $250 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for sending Morristown resident Jeffrey Jones to the hospital. Jones was struck by a car while walking along Route 100 early Sunday morning, April 10.

Teen Arrested for Grave Robbing

MORRISVILLE - A Morristown teenager is in jail for lack of $100,000 bail awaiting trial on three felony charges concerning grave robbing. Nick Buckalew, 17, pled not guilty to all three charges in Lamoille District Court Monday, April 11. He will be tried as an adult.At the time of his arrest, Buckalew was a student at Peoples Academy. He was attending school and living with his family on Elmore Street (Route 12), while on supervised furlough for previous burglary and auto theft convictions. Continued on Page 2

Waterville Water Lines

Friday, April 1, members of the Waterville Fire District #1 (WFD) met with fellow community members to discuss where a water treatment facility and a new water main will be placed. The main and treatment facility are the result of one and one-half years of work by the WFD municipality, said WFD board member Robert Wright, and the new system will cover 34 homes in the Town and Village of Waterville.

Facilities Report Released

MORRISVILLE - Mutual admiration was expressed as the Morristown Facilities Committee and the selectboard sat down face-to-face and the board accepted the committee's final report. It came as no surprise the committee recommended the town pursue renovating the old Union Carbide building for a new town hall site.

Man Thrown from Vehicle

Thirty-nine year old David B. Laflin, of Rygate, was thrown from his vehicle after he lost control while driving on Center Road in Hyde Park on Saturday, April 9.
